Meet Enrico Varano, from Airplanes to Brainwaves

What does it really mean to be an Engineer? Is there one type of Engineer? And what do they do all day? Meet Enrico who would like to tell you about his work on airplanes and brainwaves and how he became an engineer.

Meet Enrico Varano

About:  Enrico has worked in more than one Engineering sector.  He currently works on projects that use AI to generate speech for people who many find it difficult to listen and is really interested in how our brains work.  He works at Imperial College London in the Department of Bioengineering.

Route into Engineering:  Enrico went to University and gained a Bachelors degree in Engineering Design focused on Aerospace (planes & space travel).

He later gained a Doctorate in Neurotechnology and has worked in many roles where he researched neuro-science and data science problems.

Why Engineering?  Enrico loves Engineering because he likes to build things an solve problems.  He started his career looking at how planes fly and how much stress wings could take and then moved on to look at new questions around the ways that our brains work and how noise and images affect them.

Now you've met an Engineer who has worked in Aerospace and Data Science how do you feel about becoming one?

Don't forget to explore this area and the other case studies so you can find out more about the Engineers, school subjects to take and the pathway that you might follow.
